The presenters will share their experience and background and explain some of their challenges in creating meaningful, purposeful opportunities for residents, especially ones living with cognitive change. They will then describe tried and true strategies they have implemented and give actionable and tangible advice on how to implement them successfully so that staff can be supported and quality care can be achieved.

Dr. Jennifer Stelter

Dr. Jennifer Stelter is a Clinical Psychologist, who specializes in dementia and mental health care. She has 25 years experience in the healthcare field and over a decade in the long-term care industry. She is the co-owner of NeuroEssence, LLC, a consultant that runs the operations of the clinical programs for the Alden Network, and is an Adjunct Professor at Ivy Tech Community College. Dr. Stelter is involved in program and policy development, provides initial and ongoing seminars and workshops on a variety of topics that focuses on holistic, non-pharmacological interventions, conducts compliance audits, and provides supervision and one-on-one consultation sessions regarding patient care. She has also participated in talk radio, podcasts, and interviews for news articles, conducted research, and published literature and curriculum. Recently, she has been featured in the Daily Herald, Northwest Herald, and Quintessential Barrington’s Medical Guide in Chicago, Illinois. Additionally, Dr. Stelter is writing and publishing her first book introducing an innovative approach to dementia care with Johns Hopkins University.

Pamela Silberman-Mills is an accomplished Heath Care Aging Services Leader with the vision, creativity and insight to operationalize person-directed and meaningful services for older adults, Pamela Mills, corporate Director of Memory Programming, is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer and Certified Dementia Care Manager. She holds a Masters of Arts degree from the prestigious Erickson School for the Management of Aging Services at University of Maryland, a graduate certificate in Counselor Education and has over 30 years’ experience in the field of Aging Services. Pamela’s proficiency in coaching and training all levels of professionals from senior community leaders to direct care workers, results in team members modeling the best practices with the passion, empathy and understanding necessary to build expert heart-felt relationships with residents. She is the author of the Wellbeing Philosophy and Human Connection model for person-directed living, each integrating evidenced-based practices to create a meaningful life for people living with neurocognitive impairment. Her work on generating and maintaining programs that support and enhance the wellbeing for older adults has been highlighted and published in Longterm Living magazine as well as presented through webinars and speaking engagements at several professional conferences including LeadingAge Maryland, Culture Change Coalition and HFAM. Most importantly, her heartfelt passion is for designing and implementing creative, stimulating, person-directed environments, where each person living with neurocognitive impairment can feel comfort, joy and achievement. In addition to spending time with family, Pamela and her husband enjoy outdoor activities, volunteering and tending to their flock of backyard fowl and household pets.
