Kimberly VanHaitsma, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at The Pennsylvania State University College of Nursing, Associate Director of the Penn State Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence, and Director of the Program for Person Centered Living Systems of Care.

Dr. VanHaitsma has a PhD in Clinical Psychology and has worked as an applied research scientist and geropsychologist in long term service and support settings for almost 3 decades. Over the course of her career she has lead research efforts related to the development and testing of various mental health education and intervention approaches designed to improve quality of life and quality of care to frail older adults. All of this work has been done in partnership with care providers to develop a better understanding of the context of effective person-centered approaches to care.

Recently Dr. VanHaitsma’s work has been focused around the goal of having care delivery to older adults be configured around their preferences for care and thus person centered.
