NAAP was created in 1981 and authorized by CMS under FTag 658 to establish professional standards of practice. To fulfill this mandate, NAAP created NCCAP in 1986 as the credential for the Activity Profession, including the Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals (MEPAP). Ever since NCCAP certification has delivered the highest quality program ensuring the competencies required to meet regulatory requirements for pers. The Rules of Participation is the first major overhaul in the Federal regulation and Survey process in over thirty years. Person-Centered Care and Engagement is at the epi-center. In this session, we will provide you with best practices and clinical applications that utilize person-centered engagement to meet or exceed regulations. We have worked with state surveyors to develop this session and will provide you with an insider perspective to the survey process.
Session Objectives:
- Recognize fundamental changes in the new SNF Requirements of Participation for Phase 2 Implementation and its relationship to Person-Centered Care
- Walk through the survey process from the surveyor’s perspective
- Identify actions necessary for compliance
- Obtain best practices to implement culture change

National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP)
Dawn Worsley is the owner of Dawn on the Horizon, LLC in Baltimore, MD and she serves on a variety of boards including her current position as the President of the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP). Dawn is the an Activity Directory Certified (ADC) with a specialization in Memory Care and Education, a Certified Eden Alternative Associate as well as Montessori Dementia Engagement Certified. She is also an authorized certification instructor with NCCAP.
In addition to serving as an Activity Director, Corporate Program Development Consultant, Admissions and Marketing, Director of Alzheimer’s and Gero-Psych units, she is also a Regional Clinical Specialist. She has a vast knowledge base in many facets of long-term care and community services and is considered a pioneer in her field regarding resident rights and culture change. She is also a national speaker on a variety of topics for health care workers and has published both in print and video, having worked in collaboration with The University of Maryland Video Press.
